These C-130A-II aircraft had AN/APN-59 radar with the “Pinocchio nose” configuration. The aircraft had two pilots, two navigators ( radio navigator & radar navigator), flight engineer, and scanner. The back-end crew had ten radio operators and a radio technician. The aircraft had three radio operator compartments. The first & second compartments had four operator positions each, with the last compartment having two positions. These compartments had doors that were closed during the mission. The aft cargo doors were permanently closed and sealed. On top of the these closed cargo doors was a galley. Behind the galley was the radio repair station and next to the galley/repair station was an airline type toilet room. Due to maintenance problems these airline toilets were replaced with honey buckets. These aircraft had two LOX converters above the compartments. They also had four alternators, one on each engine. The aircraft had three-bladed props. There was an alternator control panel next to the APU panel. The radio antennas were in large fiberglass pods outboard of #1 & #4 engines. These pods looked like large fuel tanks. The acft had two twenty-man life rafts installed in the wing inboard of the #2 & #3 engines.
